Why God is unlike creation?
There is nothing like unto Him
At the heart of Islamic belief is a simple but profound truth: the Creator is not like the creation.
In Islam, Allah is the eternal, self-sufficient Creator who brought everything into existence from
nothing. The heavens, the earth, and everything in between exist by His will and are sustained by His power.
All creation is dependent; Allah alone is independent.
The Qur’an declares:
“There is nothing like unto Him.” (42:11)
This verse establishes a clear boundary. Allah is not part of the universe. He is not confined by time, space, or physical form. He does not resemble His creation in any way. Yet, despite His transcendence, He is fully aware of and involved with every detail of existence.
Creation Has Purpose
Islam teaches that the universe was not created randomly. It was brought into being with wisdom and purpose. The natural world reflects Allah’s Names and Attributes, His power, knowledge, mercy, and precision.
Human beings hold a special role as vicegerents (stewards) on earth, entrusted with responsibility and moral choice. At the same time, all of creation — from stars to trees — exists in submission to its Creator.
Knowing Creation, Knowing the Creator
When we reflect on the order of the cosmos, the balance of ecosystems, or the complexity of life, we are invited to look beyond them. Creation points to the One who made it.
Islam encourages observation and reflection, but always with the understanding that nature itself is not divine; it is a sign.
A Reflection for the Seeker
The Core Principle
Everything depends on Allah.
Allah depends on nothing.
Understanding this distinction protects the purity of monotheism and clarifies one of Islam’s central teachings: the Creator is unique, transcendent, and unlike anything we can imagine yet closer to us than we realize.
This clarity is not abstract theology. It shapes how Muslims see the world, their purpose within it, and their relationship with the One who brought it all into existence.
